Camille Nelson - Sacred Lullabies - COVERSacred Lullabies by Camille Nelson

Album Review by Dyan Garris, Zone Music Reporter and New Age CD

“Sacred Lullabies” by Camille Nelson delivers the most tranquil experience ever. This is one in which we know beyond any doubt, all is well. We are safe. It is time to be calm. This is tranquility on steroids. – Dyan Garris

A lullaby is a soothing song usually sung to a small child or infant. But lullabies are not just for babies.  This intimate form of communication is an expression of love that sends a message of safety, security, and calmness to the listener, no matter what age.  In these troubling times, we can all use a little of that.

“Sacred Lullabies” by Camille Nelson delivers the most tranquil experience ever. This is one in which we know beyond any doubt, all is well. We are safe. It is time to be calm. This is tranquility on steroids.

Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, Camille is the youngest of six musically talented siblings. Her father was a violist and her mother an opera singer, both heavily influencing Camille’s pursuit and interest in music and performance.  Camille, an award-winning, Billboard charting, multi-instrumentalist, has been in the music industry for over ten years. “Sacred Lullabies” is released with Heart Dance Records and it is her third studio album.

Here on “Sacred Lullabies,” which is a mix of original songs and hymns, both instrumental and vocal, and featuring elements of Folk, Classical, New Age, and Bluegrass, we have sixteen tracks of pure bliss.  Altogether, “Sacred Lullabies” contains six outstanding vocal tracks, featuring guest artists Kimberly Knighton & Britney Holman on “I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus,” and “We’ll Bring the World His Truth.” Singer-songwriter Madilyn Paige performs her vocal magic on “Our Lullaby.”  Irish Soprano singer Alex Sharpe (Celtic Woman) is featured on “Into the West,” and vocalist Stephanie Madsen is featured on “Not For a Moment.” We are treated to the breathtakingly beautiful, operatic soprano voice performance of Catherine Bohman on “Pie Jesu” (Andrew Lloyd Webber).

Opening the album is the very peaceful instrumental, “I Am A Child of God.” Here both guitar and violin are the perfect pair, leading us easily into the serenity.  Following is the beyond heavenly “Abide With Me,” featuring etheric, wordless vocal harmonies along with flawless guitar and violin performances. Stunningly beautiful.

“I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus” features vocalists Kimberly Knighton and Britney Holman. The vocal harmonies between these two are stellar, reminiscent of the Indigo Girls, but even better.  Ditto for the song, “We’ll Bring the World His Truth.” Just amazing and completely soul-soothing.  Camille’s guitar performance is showcased beautifully on the instrumental, “Redeemer of Israel.” Very peaceful.

Madilyn Paige gives an authentic, memorable vocal performance on “Our Lullaby.” There is something deeply touching about this song. Beautiful lyrics, and beyond soothing, this is genuinely calming to the heart.  “A Child’s Prayer” is a gentle instrumental lullaby, again brilliantly showcasing Camille’s guitar playing talents.   Stephanie Madsen sings us a very sweet lullaby, “Not For A Moment.” Simply beautiful and heartfelt.

The lovely instrumental, “Paris Lullaby” warms the heart further. This is followed by “Into The West,” another outstanding vocal track, this one featuring Alex Sharpe. She has a voice that rivals Enya. This is extremely calming, removing any fear or anxiety we might have about our journey.

“Edelweiss” again presents Camille’s guitar playing ability. Lovely.  “New World” is another beautiful instrumental featuring Matthew John Nelson on violin lead melody to Camille’s guitar. So sweet and mellow. “Dreaming” is upbeat and fun, yet soothing at the same time.  The reverent and lulling “For The Beauty Of The Earth,” is another instrumental where we can feel our entire mind and body releasing its stress at a very deep level.

Rounding out this supremely peaceful experience is “Where Can I Turn For Peace,” which is the perfect ending to this impressive album in which the love oozes out of every note.  Piano, guitar, and violin play easily together here in smooth, superb harmony, calming every fiber of our being.

An outstanding recording in all regards, “Sacred Lullabies” by Camille Nelson is like gently melting into sea of tranquility in a world gone mad.
