Single Review by New Age CD and New Age Notes Radio Staff
Gail Vogel owns and operates a recording studio, The Tracking Station, in Essex, Maryland. Her recent ambient, “New Age” single release, “Pleiades,” is 3:47 of flowing relaxation that will take you out of this world and easily into another.
Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters, is one of the most famous star clusters in the sky. The well-known cluster is visible to the naked eye from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. It is often the inspiration for many musical creations, especially in the “New Age” genre.
As I understand it, the cluster contains hundreds of stars, but only the brightest ten or so are typically visible to the naked eye. The most prominent stars in the Pleiades cluster are Alcyone, Electra, Maia, Taygete, Asterope, Celaeno, Pleione, Merope, and Atlas. The stars in the Pleiades cluster are surrounded by a nebula of gas and dust, which gives the cluster a hazy appearance.
Here, in her song, “Pleiades,” Gail has perfectly captured the mystery, intrigue, and ambiance of the cluster. The pleasant guitar melody is accompanied by lovely layers of synth instrumentation, a rhythmic “world” under-beat, and other atmospheric elements that put the mind, body, and spirit immediately at ease and sonically portray a sense of “twinkling stars.”
At about 2:47 we have an interesting change in tempo that takes us further into the mysterious intrigue. Throughout the song we have a real sense of belonging to something far greater than ourselves. Calming, meditative, contemplative, and thoroughly enjoyable, “Pleiades” is one for the relaxation playlist.
Of her song, “Pleiades,” Gail said, “The inspiration seemed to flow through me effortlessly as all the parts just came together. While I have played in Top 40/Rock bands and composed several songs in that genre, New Age music remains my main love.”
We can easily see why here and hope to hear more in the near future from this very talented artist. Be sure to watch the wonderful video: https://youtu.be/7l18oB-34tg?si=DNWMht–wOUG_NUx
