Single Review by New Age Notes Radio and New Age CD

What a fun, light, uplifting, and happy song to discover. “Blossom” is the single collaboration between Grammy® winning guitarist Jim “Kimo” West and Billboard Top-10 charting artist, Joss Jaffe. Their delightful single was released October 20, 2021, on the California-based record label, Be Why Music. The label is devoted to releasing music to uplift humanity. “Blossom” fits right in and perfectly so.

Jim “Kimo” West is a multiple-award winning guitarist, recognized as one of the world’s top slack key guitarists. Joss is a record producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, tabla player, and vocalist who has released 4 albums.

The song, “Blossom,” includes an interesting combination of instrumentation such as Indian tablas, Hawaiian percussion, African Ngoni (harp), plus various custom and rare guitars. The instrumentation and composition create a unique fusion between acoustic, Hawaiian, African, jazz, and ambient soundscapes.

This musical tapestry is not so unusual, however, as Jim is a 2021 Grammy® Award winner for his CD, More Guitar Stories, as well as a 2019 Grammy® nominee for Moku Maluhia-Peaceful Island. Jim is also a winner of the 2008 Hawaii Music Awards, a three-time Na Hoku Hanohano (referred to as the “Hawaiian Grammy”) nominee and a two-time winner of the LA Treasures Award for his contributions toward the perpetuation of ki ho’alu (the slack key guitar). As for Joss, his original music spans from ambient to world, reggae, electronic, and New Age. His most recent album, “Meditation Music” debuted at #3 on the Billboard chart on October 4, 2019. So, this collaboration between Jim and Joss makes for a most interesting piece.

“Blossom” is likeable in every way – loveable, in fact – uplifting, and positive. In a world currently filled with a great deal of darkness, the luscious “Blossom” is a fresh and rare find sure to raise your spirits with its pleasant, positive vibe.
