Blatt’s newest release, “Emergence,” won the 2014 Zone Music Reporter Award: Best Instrumental Album – Acoustic.
But “Emergence” isn’t just any CD, and Blatt’s music isn’t just any music. Blatt is one of the pioneers in the kind of “New Age” music that is “emerging” now, which combines music with natural patterns, science, and mathematical principles. The result is a universal language, and one that is capable of “creating new patterns of communication through sounds and rhythms,” Blatt says.
It is not surprising that Lawrence Blatt has not only an MBA but a Ph.D. in science, with a specific focus on biology of the immune system, antiviral therapies and relevant therapeutic interventions.
The fascinating scientific theory or principle of “emergence” is worth delving into on its own, and also because the benefits of music with regard to healing and its effects on the immune system are now widely documented and accepted.
For his CD “Emergence,” Blatt composed a framework of natural chord progressions, and then brought in other solo instrumentalist artists, who each (in accordance with the theory of emergence), were allowed “freedom of movement within the parameter of the basic structure.” What emerged from this experiment was “Emergence,” the most beautiful music we have heard lately. Lawrence Blatt has been playing acoustic guitar for over 30 years. He is currently performing his original compositions for finger-style-guitar in the San Francisco Bay area. His music has been called heartwarming, soothing, and relaxing.
His music consists of layers of guitar work decorated with luscious melodies and percussive moods. He often plays in open tunings with a single guitar used to create the rhythm, bass and lead melody all at once.
