Matias Baconsky | The Immortal | Single Review by Dyan Garris

Single review by Dyan Garris, New Age CD

“The Immortal’ is the first single of the new album, “Epochal,” by Argentinian pianist and composer, Matias Bacoñsky.

The album, to be released in late 2020, will be Matias’ 4th album release, and is a themed album which tells the story and journey of a man who survived the end of the world.

The album is a continuation of the story of his previous album (2018), “When the Worlds Ends.” This particular story is divided into 10 chapters and the single, “The Immortal” is “Chapter II.” “The Immortal,” is large, big, bold, “epic orchestral music.”  It’s exhilarating, exciting, and passionate.

The song masterfully elicits all the mixed feelings a person might feel as they wander through the ravaged streets after the end of the world. Here we have, perfectly conveyed through fantastic piano and the wonderful orchestral arrangement by Ignacio Ramirez, feelings of utter dismay, sadness, anger, and then the oddly juxtaposed emotion of immense joy springing from the realization of still being alive. But is he the only one left?

What is he supposed to feel?  “. . .my only hope is believing that I’m not the only one and that soon I’ll find someone else.” Will he find someone else? The full story will be revealed with the album release at the end of 2020.
