Review of Walking to You by Rachel Currea

walking-to-youWith her latest solo piano release “Walking to You,” exceptionally accomplished composer and solo piano artist Rachel Currea does not disappoint. The sixteen melodic compositions on this album are emotionally compelling, the phrasing eloquent, the timing impeccable, with all masterfully and gracefully implemented.

Ms. Currea is Miami based with an international following. “Walking to You,” was nominated by Whisperings Piano Radio for Best Album of the Year in 2015, and by Enlightened Piano Radio for Best Solo Piano Album 2016. Just why is abundantly clear.

Right from the very first notes of the title track you know it is special. This is a very relaxing album that brings a certain definitive peace to your soul. And at the same time, all of the music on the album feels very “3D” and alive, and evokes our emotions at just the right time. Every note of it, every nuance, works together beautifully to paint a vivid watercolor scene that tells a deeper story.

In the passionate “Hear Me Now,” you can almost hear the “voices” of those wanting to be heard. “Evening Joys” is brimming with the tranquility that comes from a day well lived. “Waltz in E Minor” is a perfectly lovely piece where one can almost envision elegantly clothed couples from eras gone by, swirling gracefully around a grand ballroom.

“Abundance of the Heart” is one to play over and over again for the effortless sense of peace and healing it brings directly to the heart. The sweet and joyful moments and a gamut of emotions shine through in the aptly named “Reconciliations.” Especially calming are both “Celestial Dreams” and “Starlight Lullaby.”

Showcasing her genuine talent, Rachel treats us to a flowing, masterfully played, and unforgettably passionate performance in “Hymn to the Holy Spirit,” which is the perfect finish to this outstandingly beautiful album.

“Walking to You” is an artfully composed, brilliantly executed solo piano album that you will return to time and time again. A captivatingly brilliant “must have.” ~ New Age CD.com
