Japanese-Canadian flutist Ron Korb, a two-time Grammy® Award nominee, is a celebrated musician, composer, and producer renowned for his extraordinary virtuosity and wide-ranging musical influences. With a career shaped by a lifetime of exploration, Ron has crafted a unique global sound, seamlessly fusing Pan-Asian, Jazz, Celtic, and Latin styles.
Ron’s music is fiery, sublime, intimate and cinematic. His latest album, Global Canvas, marks his 30th release, and features the track Isla Grande, which won Best Instrumental Composition at the USA Songwriting Competition.
Ron has 7 Grammy® certificates with 4 of them for winning albums including his work on Stewart Copeland (The Police drummer) and Ricky Kej’s Grammy-winning album Divine Tides and Masa Takumi’s Grammy winning album Sakura for Best Global Music Album.
He has performed live with Olivia Newton John, Jane Siberry, Tia Carrere, Liona Boyd, Dadawa, The Toronto Symphony, Grammy Winners Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ricky Kej, and Masa Takumi.
Ron has also performed with the iconic British rock bands Renaissance and The Yardbirds, and shared stages with Peter Gabriel and Cesária Évora. Ron’s musical journey has taken him to prestigious theatres, performing for heads of state such as Princess Takamado of Japan, Queen Elizabeth, and Princess Bophadevi of Cambodia. His global headling tours have spanned North America, Europe, Central America, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Australia.
In his 20s, Ron Korb immersed himself in the study of ancient gagaku court music in Tokyo, all while composing chart-topping hits for Canto Pop superstars like Roman Tam and Alan Tam, earning both gold and double platinum albums. His exceptional flute talent soon caught the attention of award-winning composers, leading him to collaborate on film scores for renowned directors such as Ang Lee, Mira Nair, Tom Hooper, John Woo, and Atom Egoyan. Ron’s film credits include the 3D IMAX feature Space Station, narrated by Tom Cruise, and Beautiful Planet, narrated by Jennifer Lawrence.
His impressive portfolio also features Being Julia, The Ice Storm, Exotica and The White Countess (starring Ralph Fiennes, Vanessa Redgrave, and Lynn Redgrave), as well as an Emmy-winning episode of World Without End, composed by Mychael Danna, a Golden Globe and Oscar-winning composer. Ron played a wide variety of Asian flutes on the worldwide top box office grossing film of 2020 The 800, and was featured on the end credit track with Andrea Bocelli. He represented Canada at Expo in Aiichi, Japan and at the Shanghai International Arts Festival where his sold out show, at the legendary Shanghai Concert Hall, was voted the audience choice by the fans.
