Let There Be Light COVERTom Moore and Sherry Finzer – Let There Be Light – Album review by Dyan Garris for New Age CD.com

Almost one hour of ambient bliss and relaxation, “Let There Be Light” is the new album release from multi-instrumentalist, Tom Moore, well-known for his atmospheric “space music,” and award winning flutist, Sherry Finzer.

From the very first notes, the music effortlessly leads us into a place that transcends space and time, effectively reaching its goal of translating the frequency of light into sound. The album is broad in its appeal, multi-dimensional in its scope, and through each song we find ourselves inside ourselves, and yet at the very same time beyond ourselves, and all in a wholly reconnected way.

The album opens with the expansive and worldly, “Way of the White Clouds,” which is evocative of the deep and mysterious ancientness in all that is and in all that we are. Finzer is one with her flute here and throughout. Moore is a master of his own instruments, keyboard, guitar, bass, synthesizers, and skillful percussion. Together, we have an ultra-synergistic blend that is meditative, contemplative, and beautifully transcendental.

Track 2, “First Light,” apart from being hypnotic and meditative, is rife with rich nature sounds and ancient voices.  This is the breaking of dawn as the first inhabitants must have seen it, or as we have a choice to see it every morning. The promise of the day is masterfully woven in, around, and through.

“Waves of Light,” track 7, is to wrap yourself in with its atmospheric breadth. A steady undercurrent of tones and beats is expertly paired with a lovely and uplifting flute melody. Here, we can easily feel ourselves as the light itself, and as part of the whole at the same time.

The last track on the album, Track 9, “A Deeper Light,” brings all of the light together in a new wavelength. Gentle, soulful flute mixes perfectly with soft and soothing electronica, moving us into a deeper space and a more profound peace.

Not to be overlooked, however, is everything that comes between the obvious “light” in this album.  For example, track 4, one of my personal favorites, is a brilliant mix of soothing water, strings, synths, multi-level percussion, and haunting flute.

The rest of the whole, including track 3, “Timeless Journey,” track 5, “A Celebration of Life,” and “Sacred Ground,” track 6, remind us of our eternal journey and that we are connected to all, both Earth and sky, as one. They are all the “breath” and space within the light.

Also the breath, is “Tides of Time,” track 8.  This is a beautiful composition, and another favorite with its steady under-beat, a deeper toned flute, and uplifting etherealism.   We can hear the ancient voices calling to us to remember ourselves as light all the while connecting us deeply in spirit.  Here we glide effortlessly into a vast expanse of time and space where we can literally feel and experience our eternal nature.

Timeless. Elegant. Relaxing. Meditative. Delightfully spatial and ambient. And highly recommended.
